Mel graduated from Goldsmiths College, University of London, in 2007 with a BA honours in Media & Sociology.

She joined Redactive Media Group shortly after graduating and started working as editorial assistant on People Management in September 2007.

Associate Editor
Jane works on the features team, writing, commissioning and editing features - the larger articles in the central section of the magazine.


She covers all subjects but has a special interest in employee relations, psychometrics, the changing role of HR as well as HR and the bottom line. As a past editor of the publication Transition, Jane has wide experience of covering training and development. Jane is a past winner of the magazine section of the Industrial Journalism Awards.

Jill Evans
Legal Editor

Jill commissions and edit articles on the latest developments in employment law.


Contributions in the Law at work section are written by employment law solicitors, many of whom are experts in their field. Although the section relies on a team of regular writers, Jill welcomes contributions from any employment lawyers with good credentials and a special insight on a current legal issue that they feel is worth sharing with employers.


Jill has worked on People Management since its inception and on Personnel Management before that. Her previous posts have included reviews editor, monitor section editor and assistant editor. She has also been assistant editor on the publication Transition.

Tim Smedley
Features writer

Having previously written for graduate careers information publications, PM gave Tim the opportunity of a new life as a London hack. As well as writing and researching feature articles, Tim edits a number of the regular columns including "How to…", "Learning centre", and "Research forum". If you would like to submit your proposals for these pieces then he's your man/person/employee of gender.

Tim is always looking for new and interesting HR feature ideas, covering any area, but he also specifically focus on management education, software and psychometrics. So if you’ve developed a piece of software that enables you to educate your managers through the use of psychometrics, then I would be especially interested to hear from you.

James Brockett
Deputy news editor

James joined PM as a news reporter in April 2006, and is responsible for writing news stories both in the magazine and online.

James writes about the full range of HR issues and have recently covered developments in pensions, recruitment, diversity and training. He also edits our Troubleshooter page.

Joanna Marsh
Commercial & Advertising Director

As commercial manager Jo is responsible for the all advertising within the magazine and on the PM website.People Management has two sales teams, one for products and services advertising (display) and one for appointments (recruitment). The products and services team sells a range of advertising opportunities to clients, including: display advertising within run of paper, inserts and directory advertising. The team helps clients find the most effective ways of reaching their target markets, maximising their profile and exposure within the HR marketplace.


The recruitment team work with a range of consultancy and advertising agencies, keeping them informed about the benefits of recruiting via People Management and ensuring the smooth running of their advertisements. Daniel Goodwin
Display Sales Executive

Daniel joined People Management in August 2007 to work on the display team. Daniel has worked in sales since he graduated in 2004. His first role was with a company who specialised in conferences and exhibitions selling delegate places to major European companies. Daniel also did a small stint as a recruitment consultant before joining People Management.


Daniel has many interests outside of the office and is constantly taking up new things to broaden his horizons.

Yolanda Bilang
Senior Sales Recruitment Executive

Yolanda was born in Windhoek, Namibia. Her mother is South African and her father is Swiss-German. Apart from English, Yolanda speaks German, French and Afrikaans.


After leaving school she attended the University of Cape Town, where she studied Film, Media and Visual Studies. Whilst studying, she created short films, ads and documentaries.


Yolanda first put her feet down on English soil in July 2005 where her first media job was in outdoor management.
