An encouraging two-thirds of UK workers want to help their organisations cut carbon emissions, research has revealed.

But only 18 per cent of staff are happy that their company is doing enough, the Carbon Trust’s survey of 1,200 workers has shown.

These figures back up PM’s and the CIPD’s joint “HR Goes Green” campaign, launched this month, which looks to highlight the role HR can play in saving the planet.

PM has secured the support of five influential professionals from the HR and business community. Mike Cutt, HR director of Alliance Boots, and Jane Hanson, senior HR business partner at first direct and HSBC, are among those lending their support.

The campaign will highlight the huge contribution HR can make to the environmental agenda, using examples of firms who are already getting to grips with the issue.

“Those businesses that have strong values and stand for something more than profit encourage their employees to express their concerns about the environment,” Mike Cutt told PM. “HR can lead this internal debate.”

Tom Delay, chief executive of the Carbon Trust, said: “Climate change has never been higher on employees’ agendas, and most are ready and willing to take up the challenge and work alongside their employers.”
