The government’s apprenticeship plans have been unveiled, but there are concerns about how firms will meet ambitious proposals for expansion.
Measures set out in the draft apprenticeship bill include an entitlement to a training place for all qualified school leavers by 2013. But while the number of apprenticeships in the UK has doubled over the past 10 years, they are still offered by less than 10 per cent of employers.
