A leadership programme at Manchester University is giving students an edge in the graduate recruitment market, according to careers expert Jane Ratchford.

The Manchester Leadership Programme (MLP), which involves degree-accredited academic units and voluntary work, was designed to create future business leaders and give graduates employability skills they might not pick up on their degree course. Demand for the MLP, which was first run in 2005, is increasing, with 450 students taking part this academic year and 600 places forecast for 2008-09.
