Unemployment and a slow- down in recruitment are spreading to new sectors as the worsening economy takes its toll on the high street labour market.

As the latest ONS statistics revealed that unemployment was up by 60,000 in the three months to June and jobseekers allowance claims in July took their biggest jump in 16 years, the CIPD has warned that the effect of the slowdown is spreading.
