A London council has sparked a debate on civil liberties by introducing a biometric recognition scheme for its staff.
Westminster City Council is to introduce the system, which requires staff to clock in using a fingerprint reader, for around 200 road sweepers and community protection staff. Such technology is intended to prevent "buddy punching" fraud where one employee clocks in for another.
