Credit crunch means longer hours for HR

The tough economic climate is forcing HR professionals to work longer hours than ever, CIPD research has found.

Almost three-quarters (73 per cent) of those working in HR now work 40 hours a week or more, compared with 62 per cent in 2007, the annual CIPD/Croner Personnel Rewards 2008 survey found. This is in spite of the fact that most (87 per cent) of the 5,700 HR professionals surveyed were contracted to work 39 hours or fewer.
