HSBC and Bradford & Bingley make cuts

Hundreds of UK jobs are to be lost at HSBC as the world financial crisis continues to hit home.
The banking giant is to shed 1,100 jobs, with around half expected to be lost from its Canary Wharf headquarters in London. The cuts will largely affect back-room staff at the firm’s global banking and markets division.
