Employers and unions meet to try to rescue a deal

Almost five months after national pay talks opened in April, Irish employers and unions have agreed to one more week of intensive negotiations, starting this week, to try to rescue a deal.
Following talks last week between Taoiseach Brian Cowen and leaders from the Irish Business Employer Confederation (Ibec) and Irish Congress of Trade Unions, all parties agreed it was worth one more intensive effort to cut a deal.
