Be sensitive when dealing with overweight employees; it can be included within the Disability Discrimination Act 1995
I am the HR manager for a nationwide furniture manufacturer. Recently, an employee on our delivery team gained a lot of weight. We’ve received reports from his colleagues that he is having difficulty carrying furniture from the van into customers’ properties.

He is willing to do the work and is normally very hard-working. But we’re concerned that his lack of fitness is adding to the risk of injury for his colleagues. One member of staff recently spent three weeks off work with a back injury, which colleagues say was caused partly by working with this person and his inability to carry our products.
