Molton Brown opened its doors as a hair salon in 1973 on South Molton Street, London. Five years later, a young chemist called Dale Daxon Bowers joined the team and created a range of plant-based hair, face and body products. The retail products gradually superseded the salon as a source of revenue.

Today the business is owned by the Japanese Kao Corporation and there are more than 800 employees globally.
