Small manufacturers expect job cuts to continue

Small and medium-sized manufacturers are cutting staff for the first time in 18 months, according to a new survey by the CBI.

As the economic downturn takes its toll on demand for UK made goods both at home and abroad, almost a third (29 per cent) of small and medium-sized manufacturers reduced the size of their workforce over the past quarter, the latest quarterly SME trends survey found.
