I write as a former fellow of the Institute of Training and Development and the Institute of Personnel Management. When they merged to become the CIPD I welcomed the step, hoping that training and development would be seen as an essential part of HR.
Both Ted Johns and Katrin Homer made valid points on PM’s letters page (30 October), but I believe we spend too much time trying to rename a rose without affecting its smell.
