Setting hourly rate below £6.10 will cause poverty and harm spending, it warns

The TUC is calling for a 6.4 per cent increase in the national minimum wage but fears that the Low Pay Commission will be too cautious when it sets the next rise, because of the economic downturn.
The trade unions body wants the hourly wage to rise from £5.73 to £6.10 from October 2009, when the next increase is expected.
