Learning from Burnout
“Action-addicted, adrenalised working lives” – this worrying trend among professionals is increasing, say the authors, and it’s down to the demands of all-consuming organisations, where the work is “always on”. Having thoroughly researched this phenomenon, they carefully analyse, describe and prescribe both insight and solutions.
They reason that 24/7 enslavement is unsustainable and contradicts our socio-legal framework, which offers more flexibility than ever. This leads to their first conclusion – that an individual’s personality can be a contributory factor. Specifically: addictive behaviour, fuelled by the “organisational greediness” of corporations, often leads to burnout.
