Toyota announces cuts in pay and hours

Carmaker Toyota has revealed plans to cut working hours and pay by 10 per cent for the forthcoming year in an attempt to stave off the threat of redundancies.

The firm, which employs 4,500 people at plants in Derby and Flintshire, will implement the move on 1 April. It has already put in place a voluntary redundancy scheme and shed 200 temporary workers, following the warning that the group is set to announce its first loss in its 70-year history.
