Job cuts needn’t harm performance, argues think-tank chief

Employers should use “progressive austerity” to sustain productivity in the downturn, according to the director of independent think-tank Demos.Richard Reeves told delegates at the HRD conference that it was possible for HR professionals to cut costs while at the same time improving performance. But he added that it was crucial to maintain the solidarity, energy and autonomy of the workforce when efficiency savings were being made.
