Drug testing is not a cheap or reasonable way to get rid of staff
Businesses are continually looking to reduce staffing costs during these challenging economic times. According to figures recently reported in The Guardian , the drugs charity Release is experiencing a four-fold increase in calls from employees being tested for drugs at work. It seems some employers are attempting to avoid the standard redundancy process by using illegal drug use as a reason to dismiss staff. MisconductEmployers can dismiss employees who test positive for illegal substances, provided they can show that the drug-taking interferes with the employees’ ability to do their jobs or presents a risk to themselves or a third party.
