Fall in wages ‘would aid Irish economic recovery’

Wages in Ireland may have to fall by up to 7 per cent for the country to take full advantage of a global recovery, a leading economist has warned.


John Fitzgerald, senior analyst with the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) also said social welfare payments and prices may have to fall if the economy is to recover.
