Perfect balance between knowing and doing

I’m just back from Romania, where I was present at the birth of Shaping the Future’s first international Practice Exchange Group (PEG). These groups are one of Shaping the Future’s most original contributions to the CIPD’s armoury, and a key tactic in the battle to bridge the gulf between research and practice – to close the “knowing/doing gap” (as it’s been described by Jeffrey Pfeffer). The PEGs are groups of HR practitioners (and business leaders and colleagues from other functions, if they wish) who undertake to meet on a number of occasions to share ideas and debate best practice around some aspect of high-performance working, and then to come together again to compare notes on what worked, what didn’t, and what they learnt along the way.
