The Value of Difference: Eliminating bias in organisations

“I question why we should need a business case for treating people fairly and with respect.” Binna Kandola immediately puts into perspective the somewhat ludicrous position whereby HR professionals are pushed to develop ever more contorted business cases to coax support for diversity in their organisations. Why indeed? But Kandola answers his own question later on when explaining the complex processes of human power structures. Has the term “diversity” become tired and notional now that the boxes can be ticked by so many organisations? Have diversity initiatives achieved what they set out to do and are they genuinely inclusive enough? Should those who have sponsored diversity programmes be feeling a bit guilty that the statistics don’t always seem to support the programmes?
