Wildcat strikes end with climbdown over foreign workers

Power station staff who took part in wildcat strikes yesterday over the employment of foreign labour are back at work after a late deal was reached on the issue.

Hertel, which runs the gas terminal at Milford Haven in Wales – which was at the centre of the dispute – offered to withdraw 40 recently hired Polish contractors and replace them with UK staff. The move has headed off unofficial action in support of the Welsh workers, which had spread to seven refineries and power stations across the country.
