In relation to the CIPD’s Labour Market Outlook survey, which found that job satisfaction has increased despite a decline in job opportunities – is this not cognitive dissonance in action? Cognitive dissonance is that uncomfortable feeling of holding two contradictory ideas simultaneously – such as opposing the slaughter of animals but still eating meat. In terms of job satisfaction, workers may not be happy with the way they are treated at work but think it’s worse somewhere else.
