The public sector is poised to make 350,000 job cuts in the next five years, sparking a “guerrilla war” with unions, the CIPD has predicted.Speaking ahead of the publication of the Office for National Statistics job figures, which are due out on Wednesday, John Philpott, chief economist and director of public policy at the CIPD, said that the current mood of optimism over the upturn was not yet justified. The main reason is that the burden of public debt means that large-scale public-sector job cuts are inevitable, which will have a knock-on effect throughout the economy, he said.
