Team building in turbulent times

Rilla Moore is one of the countless Australian human resources directors having an extremely tough year. As executive general manager of HR for the $5.3 billion listed property group Stockland, Moore has had to oversee 150 voluntary and involuntary redundancies across Australia and the United Kingdom. “We have lost 10 per cent of our staff in the past 12 months,” she says. Stockland’s head count is down to 1400. The federal employment minister Julia Gillard sums up the mood: these are “dreadful days”.
