The sorry state we’re in
I found Lucy Phillips’ article on new HR measurements at Haringey Council (News, 21 May) disheartening. Like many older members I have been listening to hackneyed apologies from councils, governments, politicians and public-sector managers over the deaths of vulnerable people for decades: “Lessons were learnt”; “The government has introduced initiatives to avoid further tragic deaths”, etc.
