Wildcat strikes lead to 900 sackings at refinery
Nine hundred workers have been sacked after taking part in wildcat strikes at the Lindsey Oil Refinery in Lincolnshire.The contractors, who had been working on the construction of a new plant, have been taking unofficial action all week in a dispute over 51 redundancies made by the plant’s owner Total. They say the layoffs broke an agreement not to make staff redundant while foreign contractors were being used on the site. But the firm denies any such agreement was made.
