How to... have a difficult conversation
When times are tough, people line up to dump their problems on the HR manager. The conversations are often difficult, saturated with negativity and complaints. HR’s helpful suggestions are often met with “Yes, but” and an explanation of why they won’t work.So, instead of doling out sympathy, try turning difficult conversations into constructive ones. This approach should allow you to find out what your people really want and need, so you can help them to develop a way forward that leaves responsibility firmly with them.
