Irish government set to axe 17,500 jobs
A report on public service numbers in Ireland has recommended a reduction of 17,300 in public service employment levels - around 5 per cent of the 330,000 public servants currently employed.The report says the cuts would primarily be achieved through natural wastage, saving €700m off the €20 billion public service pay bill.
