When drivers leave our sites in customers’ branded lorries, they are not only representing Wincanton, the “supply chain people” – they are also the very public face of a leading supermarket or fuel company. So it’s imperative that we uphold our customers’ reputations, while also giving them good service. Training staff to the highest levels possible helps us do that, which is why we recently decided to sign up to the Skills Pledge. A government initiative led by the Learning and Skills Council, the pledge is a voluntary, public commitment by an employer to support staff in developing the basic skills they need to do their jobs.
