What employers need to know about the default retirement age review and Heyday
The government has announced its intention to bring forward a review of the law around forced retirement. Recently these rules were put under the microscope in the High Court during the latest hearing of the Heyday case.
What is the government review about?Since 2006, UK law has prohibited age discrimination at work. However, an exemption allows employers to retire employees against their wishes when they reach 65. This has become known as the “default retirement age”.
