Network Rail to cut 1,800 posts

Network Rail is to cut 1,800 jobs in an effort to make cost savings, it has been announced.The owner of Britain’s rail infrastructure is to shed the posts in its maintenance division, making up a reduction of 5 per cent of its total 33,000 workforce. The move comes after the firm was told by the Office of Rail Regulation that its budget will be squeezed by £4 billion over the next five years, meaning it must reduce its costs by 21 per cent.
