Dairy Crest to shut final salary pension scheme

Milk producer Dairy Crest has become the latest employer to close its final salary pension scheme to its existing members.

The firm, which has 8,000 staff in total, is to close its defined benefit scheme – which applies to 3,500 employees – in April next year. The company, which produces brands such as Country Life and Clover butter as well as delivering milk door to door, has cited risk reduction rather than cost pressure as the reason for the closure.
