TV review: The Love of Money: The Age of Risk
Ever heard of Roland Arnall, former US ambassador to the Netherlands? I hadn’t until last night, but thanks to watching The Age of Risk I now have a new scapegoat for the economic crisis. Arnall made billions as owner of ACC Capital Holdings, the parent company of Ameriquest, one of the US’s most aggressive sub-prime mortgage lenders, and the second part of The Love of Money series explained why it was ultimately these risk-laden loans that caused the global financial system’s failure.
This riveting programme was a pacy journey through 20 years of economic deregulation, globalisation and seemingly unstoppable growth, putting the meltdown of the past year into an historical context that anyone currently working in business – including HR – could gain useful lessons from.
