Recession is putting more men than women out of work

The recession is taking a heavier toll on men than it is on women, according to an analysis of official statistics by the CIPD.

At 9 per cent, the male unemployment rate is significantly higher than the female rate of 6.9 per cent. The number of men unemployed has increased by almost 50 per cent since the recession started, compared with a 33 per cent increase for women.
