For 60 years, the personnel profession has met for its annual conference in a genteel Victorian spa town well off the beaten track. This week, the CIPD’s annual gathering moves to a dynamic and cosmopolitan city as its new venue. Goodbye Harrogate, hello Manchester. Moving Europe’s largest annual management event would be a major challenge for any organisation. Yet this is only one aspect of a much wider programme of change at the CIPD, instigated since Jackie Orme became chief executive 20 months ago.
