At least 30 training quangos will go, says Mandelson

At least 30 publicly funded skills bodies will be scrapped in a drive to simplify the UK’s education and training system, the government has announced.

The new national skills strategy also outlines plans to shift government funding from basic to higher skills. Up to 35,000 new advanced apprenticeship places will be created for adults aged 19 to 30, while £100 million will be used to create 160,000 training places in economic growth areas such as life sciences, advanced manufacturing and engineering. Those taking apprenticeships will be given Ucas points to enable them to go on to university, while the national skills academies programme will also be expanded.

Language does not simply reflect what is going on in organisational life: it also influences what people think and what they do
