Politicians and employers back living wage for London

Politicians and employers in London have given their backing to a package put forward by community groups to address the financial crisis, which includes paying a "living wage" of £7.60 an hour. The living wage – which exceeds the legal minimum wage of £5.85 an hour and represents the true cost of living above the poverty line in the capital – was the centrepiece of a package revealed at a London Citizens (LC) assembly at the Barbican. Campaigners also demanded a cap on store card interest rates of 20 per cent, a responsible lending charter, investment into local and mutual banking and a programme for financial literacy.
