Scotland lags behind rest of UK in recession recovery
Scotland is set for a long, slow recovery from recession, lagging behind the rest of the country, according to an influential economic think tank. The financial sector in particular has yet to feel the full pain of job losses, the Ernst & Young Scottish Item Club warned. The group’s annual outlook predicted that Scotland’s economy will grow only 0.7 per cent in 2010, compared with 1.1 per cent predicted for the UK as a whole. That comes on the back of a predicted 4.9 per cent fall in Scottish GDP for 2009, compared with 4.6 per cent for the whole country.
