Waitrose uses psychometric tests to filter graduates
Waitrose is using psychometric tests in its recruitment process for the first time as a method of filtering huge numbers of applications for graduate posts, PM has learnt. The supermarket chain has received 2,500 applications in its latest graduate recruitment round, in pursuit of 20 posts available for aspiring store managers. It typically invites 150 candidates to its assessment centre, so the initial selection stage is a significant task for HR. For this reason, it has decided to add an extra hurdle into the process in the form of an online situational judgement test, in which the applicants say how they would respond to common workplace situations.
