Darling puts tax on bankers’ bonuses

The chancellor has unveiled a tax on bankers’ bonuses over £25,000 in his pre-budget report delivered to the House of Commons.

The “super tax”, which will apply to all banks operating in the UK, was the centrepiece of Alistair Darling’s manifesto for handling the economy as he sought a difficult balance between trimming the public deficit and maintaining the push for recovery.
