GPs ‘are ignoring sick-note guidance’

There is a wide variation in the length of time that GPs sign people off work for the same medical condition, a study has suggested. Only one in 20 GPs follow national guidelines on the amount of leave to recommend for a particular illness, researchers at the University of Manchester found. The findings may cast doubt on the consistency of the sick notes that employers receive from doctors.
