Confidentiality is paramount to beat bullying at work
The furore over the (strongly denied) allegations that the prime minister has bullied his staff demonstrates the importance for employers of managing dignity-at-work issues sensitively and proactively.
Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of the No. 10 saga, irrespective of the rights and wrongs of the situation, is the public discussion of the National Bullying Helpline’s involvement. The use of helplines to address workplace stress, bullying and other issues can greatly assist employees by providing guidance and support in difficult situations. Establishing helplines may also assist employers defending personal injury claims for stress.
