German public-sector staff strike on pay

Public-sector unions in Germany have started a series of strikes after pay negations for a 5 per cent rise failed.Leaders of the Verdi union and several smaller unions called out 22,000 workers in temporary stoppages affecting hospitals, public transport, utilities services and rubbish collections.
