Business groups unite to slam national insurance rise

The CIPD has joined forces with a host of other business organisations to start a petition against the government’s planned rise in National Insurance contributions (NICs).

The government plans to raise contributions by 1 per cent in April 2011 as part of its efforts to close the burgeoning public spending deficit. But the decision has angered business leaders who see it as a dangerous ‘tax on jobs", which could jeopardise the economic recovery.
