BGC Partners loses ‘staff poaching’ case
A city firm was guilty of "unlawful conspiracy" when it poached employees from a leading rival, the High Court has ruled.BGC Partners was accused of systematically pursuing key talent at brokers Tullett Prebon and inducing them to break their contracts. BGC used forward contracts and sign-on payments to tempt the Tullett brokers to leave, and persuaded them to lodge constructive dismissal claims so they could move at an earlier date than would otherwise have been the case, the court heard.
