Toyota freezes pay but offers full-time hours return

Toyota has told staff at its UK manufacturing arm that pay will be frozen in 2010, but says the pay freeze is in response to the pressures of the recession rather than its current product crisis. However, the carmaker, which is in the midst of a global recall of several of its models, has said that the 4,000 strong UK workforce will be returning to work full-time on 1 April. Staff based in Burnaston (Derbyshire) and Deeside (North Wales) have been on a 10 per cent reduction in hours and pay since April 2009.
