The language of the waste management world can seem awfully convoluted. “What businesses need to do is come from the top of the waste hierarchy down, rather than the bottom up,” says Simon Drury, strategic partnership director at Envirowise, part of the government-funded resource efficiency body WRAP. He continues: “So you eliminate the need for resource; then you reduce the resource; then you find options for reusing the resource; then, if you can’t reuse, you recover the energy from the resource; if you can’t recover, you recycle; and if you can’t recycle, dispose to landfill.”
