What’s Next, Gen X?
Title: What’s Next, Gen X?Author: Tamara EricksonPublisher: Harvard Business PressPrice: £12.99ISBN: 1422120643What’s Next, Gen X? is a travel guide through the jungle of inter-generational working. Tamara Erickson sets out to provide a book that will benefit Generation X leaders (born in 1961–75), but also anyone who wants to work across generational borders. I wanted to believe that the author would be unable to accurately reflect a specific Generation X approach to work – how could she capture this when we are each so unique? But the book provides insights into the challenges and frustrations heard around the watercoolers of many organisations. It focuses on exploring Gen X, and also describes the surrounding generations: “traditionalists” (1928-45); “boomers” (1946-61); “Gen Y” (1980-95); and “Re-Gen” (after 1995). Erickson explains what shapes their thinking, experiences of relationships, security, innovations and motivations.
