Businesses count cost of volcano disruption

Employers are counting the cost of disruption caused by last month’s volcanic ash cloud, which stranded 150,000 British holidaymakers and business travellers abroad during the UK’s six-day flight ban.A CIPD survey has revealed that the biggest impact for businesses came from people being marooned overseas, a difficulty cited by 72 per cent of the HR professionals polled. Just 22 per cent of the 2,000 respondents felt that the event had had no effect on their organisation, while 6 per cent experienced problems with imports and exports.
